Matlock Storytelling Cafe - bringing storytelling back to adult audiences

Upcoming Events

On Friday 6th June, the Matlock Storytelling cafe brings you Hope Springs Eternal and Strange Encounters...

Some years ago, storyteller Mike Payton chanced upon one of Derbyshire's mythical big cats. Over the years, listeners to this tale have chosen to think him mad, or drunk, rather than believe him. In an attempt to persuade people of the truth, Mike has delved into the story mine to bring together a collection of even stranger encounters, which make a puma in Dovedale seem as mundane as finding a baguette in a bakery.

Also, as the well dressing season is on us, the effervescent Rachel Murray muses on the place of wells in folklore. From their watery depths, these givers of life have always been central to their communities. But sometimes, things lurk and wait. The next time you see a well, have a look, and listen...are you sure that there is only water down there? Rachel knows. Come and listen to her.

Tickets cost £7 and can be bought by calling Storytelling Cafe on 01629 580023. Or you can pay on the door. Delicious cakes and savoury snacks available. BYOB. The Café is in The Imperial Rooms, Matlock DE4 3NL. Doors open 6.45, show begins 7.30.
