THE TRICKSTER “Compelling, funny and heartbreaking” The Times

Birmingham Storytelling Café is proud to present DOMINIC KELLY, internationally acclaimed storyteller and his show, The Trickster, described by The Times as “compelling, funny and heart breaking.”

Weaving international trickster tales and motifs from Norway, Middle Eastern folktale, German’s Till Eulenspiegel and Africa with the real life antics of renowned imposter and criminal Percy Toplis, AKA ‘The Monocled Mutineer,’  Dominic creates a new take on the archetypal mischief- maker. Skilfully leading his audience into an ambiguous empathy and admiration for this villain’s unbridled ingenuity and cheek, he then confronts them with one step too far from his anti-hero, John Henry Williams.

This stunning piece of composition totally justifies Dominic’s position as one of the UK’s leading figures in the world of storytelling. Not only has he received a series of national commissions and performed at prestigious national and international venues from The National Theatre to Delhi International Storytelling Festival but he is also himself a Director of major Storytelling Festivals. Based both in Lancashire and Sweden, he is a member of the UK Talking Skulls and Fabula, the acclaimed Swedish Storytelling company. Dynamic, compelling, high energy and immersive, don’t miss this fabulous opportunity to slip with Dominic into the shadows of the Cumbrian mountains where he will regale you with tales of tricksters, charlatans and shape-shifters. Come early at 6.30pm and fill yourself with hearty food before the tales begin.

Food served from 6:30, stories start at 7:30.  Tickets £7 from the venue, from or call 0121 443 4725
